The essentials
Yes. Rod Moratti holds a Private Investigator’s licence (number 21-082495), issued under the Private Security Personnel Licensing Authority.
That matters because the licensing system regulates who can operate in the industry, helping ensure licensed investigators are suitable, trustworthy and professional.
Rod is also a member and past committee member of the NZIPI, the New Zealand Institute of Private Investigators.

Costs & how it works
Depending on the task, Rod works on either an hourly rate or an agreed set fee. Every matter is different, so it isn’t possible to list all costs here — the best approach is to make contact and Rod will assess your enquiry and explain the likely costs before anything begins.
Many straightforward trace enquiries can be completed quickly, while more complex matters may require additional research or field work. Surveillance usually needs two agents working together to maintain discreet, continuous observation, plus reporting; Rod will discuss the number of agents or vehicles required for the evidence you need.
Expenses depend on the task and may include travel, accommodation, rental vehicles, parking or meals. Payment is easiest by internet banking, or via PayPal. In most cases, given the immediate nature of the work and up-front planning, retainers are non-refundable.

Trace enquiries and background work are usually handled from Rod’s Auckland office, without the need for travel.
For surveillance and field visits, Rod operates throughout New Zealand — from Kaitaia and the Bay of Islands down through Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, Rotorua, Taupō, Wellington, Nelson, Christchurch, Dunedin, Queenstown and Invercargill. His most experienced surveillance agents are based in Auckland and Wellington and are deployed nationwide where the result is what matters.

For Australian trace enquiries, Rod has investigative capability and trusted contacts across Australia.
For the Pacific Islands, work can be handled either by engaging suitable local agencies or by travelling to the location, depending on the task. Every enquiry is assessed individually to determine the most effective and practical approach.
What Rod can & can’t do
With the right resources, Rod can locate individuals almost anywhere in the world, and regularly assists clients with overseas trace enquiries.
Within New Zealand, 37 years of experience combined with local knowledge, trusted contacts and practical ingenuity means most people can be located efficiently and discreetly. Every case is different, but experience, persistence and the right approach usually make the difference.
Surveillance is carried out discreetly and effectively when planned and conducted by experienced investigators. Rod undertakes everything from domestic matters through to complex, multi-agent assignments over extended periods — no task too large or too small.
Vehicle surveillance often requires two vehicles, with agents changing position regularly to reduce the risk of detection and keep continuity. On foot or in public places, experienced agents blend naturally into the environment while maintaining observation. The aim is always clear, reliable evidence, obtained promptly and professionally.
No. Telecommunications companies won’t release that information to private investigators, and the Privacy Act prevents access to private phone or text records.
However, Rod is experienced at obtaining information through lawful investigative methods. Share the background to your enquiry and he’ll personally assess your case and advise the best course of action.
No. Rod doesn’t provide background checks, credit reports or criminal-history searches — in New Zealand, criminal records can only be requested by the individual concerned.

As a licensed Private Investigator and NZIPI member, Rod is authorised to obtain names and addresses from the Motor Vehicle Register in specific circumstances (Gazette authorisation 2022-au5204).
Register information may only be accessed when relevant to a matter Rod is professionally engaged in, and only for authorised purposes — such as preparing evidence relating to criminal offences, detecting or investigating suspected fraud, enforcing court orders and judgments, or acting as a contracted agent for government agencies with law-enforcement functions.
Any information obtained may only be used for the authorised purpose and retained only as long as needed. Anyone may notify the Registrar of Motor Vehicles that they don’t wish their details made available under such authorisation.
Rod receives many enquiries from people interested in becoming a Private Investigator. Unfortunately positions in the industry are rare — if you’re fortunate, you may be able to align with an established licensed agency and work up from the ground level.
